What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy that uses the power of suggestion to encourage positive change. I use relaxation techniques to help you reach a state where the conscious part of your mind is relaxed and your subconscious part is more open to suggestion. I will then use suggestive techniques (where I ‘talk’ to your subconscious) to help encourage the change you’re looking for.

How can hypnotherapy help me

The purpose of hypnotherapy is to help you to understand and manage your psychological, physical and emotional behaviour with a goal of bringing about positive changes through the use of suggestions whilst in hypnosis.

What kind of things can hypnotherapy help with?

Every one is unique and therefore the issues they present with are unique to them.  There are lots of things that hypnotherapy can help with.
Lets have a look at some of the clients I have worked with recently and some of the issues they have presented with.

Lose weight

Mary came to see me with an issue of secret eating.  She was going to the cupboards and fridge, eating when no one was looking  Mary spoke about some past issues and Mary started to see a conection between this and her secret eating.  In order to help her to manage this habit that had been happening for many years, we carried out hypnotherapy.

We had a few sessions focused on secret eating and then a few on hypnotherapy for boredom eating which we discovered may also have been one of the reasons.  Mary loved the hypnotherapy sessions and worked on goals between sessions around exposure to some of the social issues she was experiencing.  She has a much healthier relationship with food, no longer focusing on the actual weight loss but bringing new things into her life to focus on.

Giving up smoking

Amy came to see me as  she wanted to give up smoking for health reasons.  Family members had recently passed away from smoking related cancers and she knew now was the time to do something about this.  We completed 2 sessions, one to gather and provide information and one for the hypnotherapy to give up smoking and she succeeded and is still a non smoker after 2 years!

You have to really want to give up smoking for this to work.
If you still want to smoke but are giving up because of pressure from others, it is far less likely to work.  It has to be a strong desire to want to give up.

Trauma

John came to me with a diagnosis of complex PTSD due to trauma he had experienced in his life.  After some weeks of talking therapy, I carried out hypnotherapy with him regarding his flashbacks and these reduced gradually until he was no longer experiencing these.
There were still some triggers for him, but again these reduced significantly and he was able to start to continue with his life.

Once he was able to have better quality of sleep, John then found he had more energy to implement some hobbies and interests into his life, which in turn helped him to not focus on the trauma and start to rebuild a new life for himself.

I often use Counselling alongside hypnotherapy where clients are feeling particularly “stuck” and the messages in the sub conscious mind need to be changed in order for them to start to heal.  There are many more issues that hypnotherapy can cover but these are just a few of the ones I work with.
